Based on healthy grapes that were selected in the same go like the Auslese that is based on the very few botrytis grapes, the 2021 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese shows a precise, fresh and finely reductive nose of cut slate and just-ripe but intense and concentrated Riesling berry aromas. Pristine and highly elegant on the palate, this is a textured and savory, very delicate and filigreed Spätlese with yellow apple aromas and remarkably refined but striking acidity that is also just ripe and does its job brilliantly. The finish is saline and crystalline, but this Sonnenuhr is less rich and intense than the Kabinett selections from Graach. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork.
