Lying between the Vosges mountains and the Rhine river, Alsace has been traded back and forth between France and Germany for centuries. For this reason, Alsatian wines are unique within France - it's the only region in France with significant plantings of Riesling and Gewurztraminer, among other Germanic grape varieties. One can also find some of the finest French examples of Pinot Gris and Muscat here. The best wines from these four varieties come from officially designated Grand Cru vineyards. Marquis Wine Cellars is a huge supporter of the wines of Alsace, and we routinely carry a wide selection.
