Wines awarded 95 or more points are much rarer than those scoring between 90-94. What can you expect from a high-scoring wine? Most critics agree that 95+ points indicates benchmark examples of the type or vintages, and wines that are judged to become classics. Keep in mind that critics have their own preferences for different styles or regions of wine. Some may prefer stronger, bolder tasting wines; others, weaker, more subtle. Some prefer Bordeaux or California, for example, and tend to rate those wines slightly higher. Like getting to know your friends, becoming familiar with major critics and their preferences also takes time. To make a broad statement however, most top critics generally agree and all of them recognize quality.
We do our best to post the most reputable and recent critic scores available so our clients can feel confident in their fine wine purchases.
