95+ Point Wines

95-plus-ratings1.jpg

Wines awarded 95 or more points are much rarer than those scoring between 90-94. What can you expect from a high-scoring wine? Most critics agree that 95+ points indicates benchmark examples of the type or vintages, and wines that are judged to become classics. Keep in mind that critics have their own preferences for different styles or regions of wine. Some may prefer stronger, bolder tasting wines; others, weaker, more subtle. Some prefer Bordeaux or California, for example, and tend to rate those wines slightly higher. Like getting to know your friends, becoming familiar with major critics and their preferences also takes time. To make a broad statement however, most top critics generally agree and all of them recognize quality.

We do our best to post the most reputable and recent critic scores available so our clients can feel confident in their fine wine purchases.

Château Palmer 2014 Margaux 750ml

$521.65

“The 2014 Palmer builds on the promise that it showed in barrel. It is clearly a more understated and nuanced Palmer from winemaker Thomas Duroux this year, but a Margaux with exquisite delineation and precision, hints of blackberry, boysenberry...

Rene Rostaing 2012 Cote Rotie "Cote Blonde" 750ml

$321.65

I think the best wine here (at the moment anyways) is the 2012 Cote Rotie Cote Blonde. More reserved and closed initially, it has subtle, yet seductive notes of black raspberry, blackberry, toasted spice, smoke earth and cured meat that gradually open up...

The 2015 Oreno is fabulous. Rich, sumptuous and yet very much medium in body, the 2015 has it all going on. Silky tannins and juicy, pliant fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. Succulent dark cherry, plum, chocolate, mocha and licorice infuse...

Chateau de Beaucastel 2005 CDP Rouge 750ml

$186.87

Reminiscent of the 1995, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape is tight, structured and backward, with high acidity and tannin. Showing notes of blackcurrants, black raspberry, truffle, damp earth and cedar, with medium to full-bodied richness and depth, it needs...

Château La Fleur de Gay 2015, Pomerol 750ml

$181.99

“The 2015 La Fleur de Gay is dark and sumptuous in the glass. Plum, bittersweet chocolate, cloves, new leather, incense and tobacco all meld together in this unctuous, flamboyant Pomerol. The tannins need time to soften, but there is plenty to look...
