95+ Point Wines

95-plus-ratings1.jpg

Wines awarded 95 or more points are much rarer than those scoring between 90-94. What can you expect from a high-scoring wine? Most critics agree that 95+ points indicates benchmark examples of the type or vintages, and wines that are judged to become classics. Keep in mind that critics have their own preferences for different styles or regions of wine. Some may prefer stronger, bolder tasting wines; others, weaker, more subtle. Some prefer Bordeaux or California, for example, and tend to rate those wines slightly higher. Like getting to know your friends, becoming familiar with major critics and their preferences also takes time. To make a broad statement however, most top critics generally agree and all of them recognize quality.

We do our best to post the most reputable and recent critic scores available so our clients can feel confident in their fine wine purchases.

Masseto 2019 Toscana Red 3.0L

$5,760.78

The 2017 Masseto is fabulous. A wine of tremendous inner perfume and sensuality, the 2017 dazzles from start to finish. Although not the most potent or structured Masseto, the 2017 impresses with its breathtaking finesse. The flavors are vibrant and...

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia 2019 Ornellaia 3.0L

$1,539.91

The 2018 Ornellaia is an introvert at this stage. Medium in body, with terrific persistence and impeccable balance, the 2018 is not in any mood to show all its cards today. Hints of red berry fruit, mocha, spice, licorice and dried flowers emerge with a...

Chateau Palmer 2019 Margaux 750ml

$999.91

The 2019 Palmer is a truly special wine, but it is also going to need a number of years to be at its finest. Dense and plush, with explosive energy, the 2019 possesses tremendous richness in its dark fruit. As always, the blend features a high percentage...

Antinori 2004 Solaia IGT 750ml

$912.95

I consider the 2004 Solaia the first of the truly epic modern Solaia. This is the first vintage in which the component wines were aged separately and blended towards the end of aging. That, along with more care in managing temperature in fermentation and...

Antinori 2007 Solaia IGT 750ml

$791.21

The 2007 Solaia saturates the palate with a heady array of super-ripe black cherries, plums, cassis, mocha and sweet French oak. There is an exotic quality to the Solaia I find totally irresistible. Despite its considerable ripeness and opulence, the...

Antinori 2012 Solaia IGT 750ml

$634.69

The 2012 Solaia is the ultimate comfort wine: It serves as a beautiful monument to the potential of Italian wine. Let me give you some context. My lukewarm review of the 2011 vintage caused some heads to turn. Happily, the previous vintage has served as...

Gaja 2017 Sperss Barolo 750ml

$621.65

Following so quickly after the celestial 2016 vintage, this Gaja 2017 Barolo Sperss shows muscle and brawn; however, the Conteisa holds its own in terms of aromatic complexity. With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, that added concentration and determination...
