Comte Lafon

Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon was founded in 1999, when Dominique Lafon of the legendary Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault brought his family's expertise south into the Mâconnais, a region then known mostly for straightforward, high-volume Chardonnay. Lafon saw what others had overlooked: high-altitude, old-vine parcels on clay-limestone soils with the potential to produce something far more serious than the region's reputation suggested. He was among the first Côte d'Or producers to invest there, and he converted the estate's vineyards to biodynamic farming from the outset, tending them with the same rigour applied at Meursault.

Today the domaine spans some 26 hectares across multiple communes, planted exclusively to Chardonnay. Winemaking favours large, neutral oak foudres and older barrels, a deliberate choice that preserves the pure fruit and minerality of each site rather than masking it with new wood. Day to day, the estate is run by Caroline Gon in close partnership with Dominique, with his daughter Léa and nephew Pierre increasingly involved in shaping its future.

The result is a range of wines that channel the finesse and precision of Burgundy's greatest addresses into a region once dismissed as simple. Each cuvée, from the entry-level blends to single-vineyard bottlings like Clos de la Crochette and Clos du Four, offers a distinct expression of place, proof that the Mâconnais can rival its more celebrated neighbours to the north.
