There's a perception of higher ripeness of fruit in the 2020 Selección de Parcelas Los Primos Pinot Noir compared with the 2021 that I also tasted next to it, despite both labels mentioning 13.5% alcohol. It's normal, as 2020 was warmer and drier, and this selection of mostly El Primo, Chuir and a little bit of Las Cuñadas plots, which have different clones and rootstocks, shows a little more tannin and faint earthiness. It's medium-bodied with flavors of ripe cherries and some gritty undertones (think Gevrey rather than Chambolle) and with a round feeling in the palate. It fermented with 15% full clusters and matured in 38% new 300-liter French oak barrels and the rest in used 228-liter ones for 15 months.

The 2020 Pinot Noir Selección de Parcelas Los Primos from Malleco, Traiguén, was 20% fermented with stalks and aged for 15 months in 38% new oak. Purple in the glass, displaying subtle notes of stalk, earth, sour cherry, strawberry, pomegranate, hints of spice, lavender, wax and aromas from the aging process. In the mouth, it has a silky texture with a little delicate grip that lends profile and channels the freshness into the complex, nuanced finale. A Chilean Pinot made with a nod to Burgundy.
