This exciting new release from John Wurdeman and Gela Patalishvili is a rare bird - a 50/50 co-ferment of Saperavi (Georgia’s flagship red) and Vardisperi Rkatsiteli (a pink-skinned mutation of Rkatsiteli). Sourced from the Tibaani village in the Alazani Valley, where the soil is rich with ancient seashell fossils, the grapes were harvested together and co-fermented with whole bunches in traditional qvevri. After just seven days of skin contact, the wine was racked and aged underground for a year. The result is a lighter, fresher take on Georgian red that defies easy categorization, blurring the lines between a dark rosé and a light chillable red.
Tasting Notes: The nose is vibrant and playful, bursting with aromas of red fruit candies, wild pomegranate, and a distinct earthy undertone that grounds the fruit. On the palate, it is light-bodied and electric, balancing the juicy sweetness of crushed berries with a savoury, saline mineral edge derived from the fossil-rich Tibaani soils. The finish is crisp and dry, with a refreshing acidity that makes it incredibly easy to drink.
