The 2022 Syrah on Shale is picked a bit later than the Sandstone cuvée, with various batches including 50-100% whole bunches. Perhaps this has more complexity on the nose, revealing white pepper and Provençal herb notes with wonderful delineation and focus. The aromatics have real panache. The palate is medium-bodied, taut and linear, with a sweet and crunchy dark-fruited core of cassis and blackcurrant. It’s not persistent at the moment, but again, I would be inclined to afford this two or three years in bottle. There’s great potential here.
