Baia Abuladze was born into a winemaking family, but was a renegade maverick who wanted to make cool & forward-thinking wines that were progressive & complex examples of Georgian wine as opposed to just your average table wine. Her winery got a huge boost after she won a grant from the Michelle Obama Foundation (!) in 2018 — we love the idea of Michelle geeking out on weird Eastern European orange wine—and the town built a road to her winery in her honour (because there wasn’t one). Three months of skin contact, but drinks like a mega-textured white, dream orange-green nose of dried apricot, green herbs, marzipan & wildflower honey with a sly tannin and refreshing acid. An all-consuming bone-cracking hug of a wine!
