Matthew SherLOCK and Ross HackWORTH — both also of Nichol Vineyard — make honest, single-vineyard, low-intervention wines from a Naramata Bench base, priced to actually drink. The Semillon comes from a single site planted in 1995 near Kelowna: whole-cluster pressed, natural ferment, fourteen months in neutral French oak on full solids with minimal stirring, bottled unfined and unfiltered (expect a little sediment). Pale straw. Wild lemon, lemon balm, green apple and meadow grass over verbena, elderflower and wet stone. Taut, dry, low in alcohol, long and slim. Serve 9–11°C.
Pairing: oysters, grilled trout, Poplar Grove cheeses, herb salads.
