The Santos Lima family has farmed at Quinta da Boavista in Alenquer since the late 1800s, on gentle Atlantic-facing slopes north of Lisbon where ocean breezes moderate the heat and keep acidity intact. Bonavita blends indigenous Touriga Franca, Castelão and Aragonez with Syrah — Portuguese character with a little international polish. Deep ruby. Ripe red and dark berries lead, with plum, dried herbs and a light peppery spice. Medium-bodied, crisp and open-textured, with fresh acidity, soft tannins and a perfumed aftertaste. Made for early drinking, and remarkably good value.
Pairing: grilled chouriço, roast pork, tomato-based pasta, hard cheeses.
