Spier's winemaking history at Stellenbosch runs back to 1692, and the farm pairs that heritage with serious commitments to regenerative farming, ecological restoration and community programmes. Fruit is hand-harvested, destemmed and cold-macerated in steel before fermentation. Deep ruby. Perfumed red berries and plum lead, threaded with cinnamon and a faint smoky brambly edge that marks the variety. Medium-bodied, with smooth silky tannins, balanced acidity through the mid-palate, and a juicy, lingering fruity finish. Approachable, characterful, and honest value — a fine introduction to South Africa's signature grape. Serve 16–18°C.
Pairing: braai-grilled meats, roast lamb, boerewors, tomato-rich pasta.
