From the Saanich distillery Graeme Macaloney founded in 2016 — Scottish-born, and famously sued by the Scotch Whisky Association for using his own surname on the label. Buzz Cut takes their pot-still island malt and infuses local honey, then holds the strength at 46% rather than dropping to liqueur proof. Gold in the glass. Wildflower honey and beeswax lead, over malt loaf, baked apple and orchard fruit, with a whisper of vanilla oak. The palate is rounded and sweet-edged but not cloying, the higher abv keeping malt spice and a dry, warming finish in play.
Serve: neat, over a large cube, or in a Gold Rush.
