A darkly alluring blend of ground cloves, cedar box, rubbed sage, and a dusting of cocoa gives way to mentholated blackberry notes as the 2021 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva smolders up from the glass. This washes across the palate, sapid and complex, displaying textures of pure silk and masses of mineral-laced red and blue fruits that slowly saturate toward the close. Hints of brown spice linger over a web of edgy tannins as a bump of residual acidity adds freshness through the long and staining finale. The Riserva hails from one hectare of 55-year-old vines. It's gorgeous.
