The Mâcon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette from Lafon is among the reliable entry points to its range. The 2024 features an elegantly lemony fruit with notes of butter and spice, and the oak integration is superb – nothing overt, simply a textural richness that balances nicely with the crisp acidity. Yields were down by two-thirds due to the weather, but what is left is lovely. The grapes are from 2.6ha of south-facing slopes in clay soils studded with abundant limestone pebbles; they were fermented mostly in large oak uprights and some large old oak.
