Aromas of blackberries, underbrush, violets and a hint of geraniums. The palate shows a focused, well-defined thread of fruit complemented by subtle savoriness. Sourced from San Martín in the east. Drink now.

Within the El Enemigo single-vineyard Bonarda bottlings, I found the 2022 Bonarda Single Vineyard La Esperanza to be the most multifaceted and alluring. It derives from 80-year-old vines in sandy soils in San Martín and matured for one year in foudre. It is the most aromatically coiled, gradually unfurling a savory, tobacco-driven bouquet followed by a lifted, high-toned and energetic palate. The finish balances a soaring, ethereal lift with a rounded, earth-driven quality framed by grippy, fine-grained tannins and impressive depth. This is a reference point for the variety and one that I can easily imagine drinking very well through its 10th birthday.
