Vancouver's Trident Hospitality bought Desert Hills on Black Sage Road in early 2024 and relaunched it as the Okanagan's first Beaujolais house, focused solely on Gamay and Chardonnay under winemaker Stefanie Dylla. The January 2024 freeze pushed sourcing south for this one: Gamay from Sheehan Farm in Washington. Picked at lower Brix and higher acidity, destemmed and gently crushed, fermented seven days in two tanks on different yeast strains, then blended. Juicy blackberry and cranberry burst from the glass, with Gamay's signature white-pepper twist on the close. Light-bodied, soft-tannined, crisp. 13.8% abv. Best served chilled.
Pairing: roast turkey, roast chicken, lamb kebabs, charcuterie.
