From the large Ortona-based cooperative Citra, whose Bisanzio range draws on hillside fruit in the province of Chieti, between the Apennines and the Adriatic - a corridor of mountain-cooled nights and sea breezes that keeps aromatics fresh. Vines sit on clay and gravel soils; grapes are picked cool, gently crushed, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, then rested briefly on fine lees. Pale straw-gold. Lemon, pear, white peach and green apple, with a hint of almond blossom. Dry, light-to-medium bodied, crisp and clean, with a subtly mineral, gently textured finish. Easy, dependable, keenly priced. Serve at 8–10°C.
Pairing: antipasti, seafood risotto, grilled white fish, fresh salads.
