The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from San Felice displays rich black cherry and plum with complements of sweet spice, cedar shavings and cooling mintiness. The textures are silky, ushing in a polished mix of red/black berries laced with salty minerals. It’s medium in body and youthfully compact; yet it is also showing a glimpse of what’s to come, as inner florals build over notes of licorice and cloves. A web of fine tannins coat all that they touch in youthful poise, as this tapers off with violet inflections. This is a very nice expression of the 2016 vintage form southern Montalcino.
