Gone are the days when Chianti meant Fiasco style bottles with their straw basket covered bottoms, served by the litre in cheap trattorias. The wine produced in the Chianti region today - especially in the historical core of Chianti Classico - is some of Italy's finest, as beautiful as the verdant rolling hills on which the Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes are grown.
