Tempranillo with an extra-drinkable twist! Alfredo Maestro is a self-made winemaker in the small town of Peñafiel, Ribera del Duero, focused on making organic wines that reflect well-kept vineyards and healthy land. Working at incredibly high elevations up to 1000m above sea level, his wines have an aromatic lightness all their own, nothing like the over-extracted, oak-heavy bruisers of the past. Almate is the first wine Alfredo made, half-destemmed, wild fermented in tank and bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphites. Deep, ripe and brimming with savoury fruit – blackberry seed, cherry stem, blueberry leather, walnut brittle & sour cream with fresh tobacco tannins. Expect a touch of sediment – nothing a careful pour or a decant can’t fix! – and pair with habachi-grilled skewers on the beach.
