Raised in 50% new and 50% used French oak hogsheads for two years): Bright ruby. Fresh red berries, cherry liqueur, licorice, woodsmoke and vanilla on the deeply perfumed nose. Concentrated and powerful but lively as well, with juicy acidity giving vivacity to the expansive raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. The very long, sappy finish features silky tannins, a touch of candied rose and lingering smokiness. The vines here are reportedly almost 90 years old.
