La Espera
After an extensive search for the ideal location to establish a vineyard, owner Kurt Heinlein discovered a stunning property in San Rafael, Mendoza. Situated at an elevation of 850 metres, the site overlooks a breathtaking pre-Andean range and is blessed with the Diamante River running along its edge.
In 2005, guided by agricultural engineer Franco Lucchini, the first 20 hectares were planted with Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. This marked the birth of one of the first wines from 25 de Mayo - San Rafael, an undiscovered gem in the region.
Funckenhausen Vineyards sits on the last fluvial terrace formed by the Diamante River, which defines the alluvial cone that shapes the terrain. These heterogeneous soils are composed of sandy loam layers, boulders of various sizes, caliches, and calcareous deposits.
The vineyard’s elevation in the southern oasis of Mendoza brings a cooler climate than the surrounding areas, resulting in lower maximum temperatures throughout the year - ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes. Enjoy these wines exclusively at Marquis Wine Cellars.
