A beautiful imtense yellow gold in the glass. The nose is layered and complex with floral notes; wisteria, lemon balm and acacia, stone fruit; peach and an hint of salinity. The palate is concentrated and fresh; fleshy fruit flavours are balanced by citrus and minerality that carries onto a long satisfying finish. Enjoy this with shellfish like lobster or scallops, or a more Italian themed meal like a cream based pasta or veal scallopini in a tangy lemon sauce.
Predominantly Chardonnay with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc, Rossj-Bass exemplifies Gaja’s mastery in crafting elegant white wines. Produced from grapes grown in several estate-owned vineyards. The Rossj vineyard, planted in 1984, is named for Angelo Gaja’s younger daughter Rossana (Rossj). “Bass” is Piedmontese for the Italian “basso”, meaning low, which is a reference to the low lying vineyard position. Pheasants are featured on Rossj-Bass’ label to commemorate these birds that inhabit the forests nearby.
