At San Francisco’s Ungrafted, our 2020 Wine Bar of the Year, owners Rebecca Fineman and Chris Gaither offer a wine list that strikes a playful balance between Old World classics and under-the-radar offerings. This Pinot Noir from Burgundy’s legendary Remoissenet Père & Fils is one of their current favorites by the glass. The “Renommée” title means “renamed” and refers to a blend of grapes from parcels of well-known villages that have been declassified and grouped together under a simple Bourgogne label. “This wine is one of those gems that tastes far more expensive than it is,” says Fineman. “It’s classic Burgundy: tart red cherry, strawberry, cranberry, pomegranate, along with a light herbal note. It’s medium-bodied and delicious.”
