Julien Pilon 2018 Hermitage Blanc "Prisme" 750ml
The grapes are sourced from 'Maison Blanche' lieu dit in Hermitage. 100% new oak, but Julien uses 500l barrels to mitigate the transfer of new wood to the wine. My notes read, “Impressive,...
Julien Pilon 2018 Viognier "Grand Pere Etait Limonadier" 750ml
This vineyard is close to Condrieu, on granitic soil. Mouth filling and absolutely delicious. Many viogniers do not deliver as they are either too alcoholic or lack depth, but this is perfect. --...
Julien Pilon 2018 Cornas "L'Elegance du Caillou 750ml
From 85 year old vines, a mere 1000 bottles made. I am super picky about Cornas – no ifs, ands, or buts about it here folks – but this is the real deal. Smokey notes, blackberry, bacon,...
Julien Pilon 2018 Marsanne/Roussanne "Le Bruit des Vagues" 750ml
A deft harmony of the best of the two grape varieties. The slopes where the Marsanne grows are high up which keeps the freshness and acidity, and the Viognier rounds out the wine giving you a...

Description
Full, shiny yellow robe. The bouquet is firm, not yet showing its hand, has depth, apricot and peach present. The palate gives a rich feel at the outset, is rather copious, but a fresh line runs through it, oak noticeable. It grips on the close. It needs time to extend and open further.
-- John Livingstone-Learmonth, Cradel of the Rhone, 2019
[2017 vintage] Ripe and inviting, with creamed pear, apple and melon flavors, inlaid liberally with toasted meringue and sweetened butter notes. A light verbena hint adds some detail on the finish.

Julien Pilon specializes in white wine – it makes up 80% of his production – but has expanded his production to include several high quality reds. His whites are precise, exciting and stylish; the best of them will age gracefully for a long time, especially the spectacular Hermitage Blanc. Before branching out on his own, Pilon worked with Pierre Jean Villa in the Rhone, and before that in Roussillon and in Spain. Says John Clerides, “I have no clue how Julien crafts wines with impressive depth finesse and purity form purchased grapes, but he has done it.”
