Location & Soil: Hochberg in Neckenmarkt; south-facing; mica-schist; lime-free
Age of Vines: 55 years old
Altitude: 450 MASL
Harvest / Yield: end of September / 40 hl per ha
Vinification: Selection of old vines from Hochberg; hand-picked and hand- sorted prior to grapes entering crusher; 18-day natural fermentation in 1500-liter wooden cask, frequent pushing down of the skins by hand, malolactic fermentation, ageing in big wooden cask
Filtration: unfiltered
Tasting Notes: dark ruby with violet reflexes, slight lightness along the rim. Aromas of blackberry jam with delicate underlying floral notes, black cherry, hint of orange rind and nougat, notes of red berries; spicy and peppery finish
