There are 12,000 cases of the 2016 Zinfandel Juvenile, a cuvée that began life as a bottling produced from the young-vine fruit from replanted vines, which Turley has always harvested separately, and now includes declassified wine from other sites. Offering up an inviting bouquet of sweet cherries, plums and petroleum jelly, the wine is medium-bodied, supple and velvety, with tangy acids, a ripe core of fruit and a mouthwatering finish. As the price hasn't changed since the inaugural release, the Juvenile bottling represents ever better value with each new vintage.

For the past 20 years, the strongest hand at the Zinfandel wheel has been Larry Turley's. Turley Wine Cellars, which released its first wines with the 1993 vintage, pioneered a plush, richly fruity style of Zinfandel that helped establish the varietal as a world-class contender. Turley's Zins appear on America's best restaurant wine lists, and the waiting time for a spot on his direct mail list rivals that of many cult Cabernet Sauvignon producers.
