Baron Ugo is Monteraponi’s most premium wine and also a single vineyard. This is their most elevated vineyard sitting at 570 meters above sea level. Average age of vines here is 40 years. It is produced using the same blending recipe as Campitello. It was recently declassified due to Monteraponi’s disapproval of the new Grand Selezione category (it could be labelled as such under the Conzortio’s new law). It is also intensely perfumed but the tannin structure is more drying in comparison to Campitello. Vinification is similar to that of Campitello and it ages 36 months in Allier and Slavonic Oak, followed by tank, concrete vat and bottle age. Baron Ugo is also unfiltered.
