Description
Marcel Lapierre's mentor Jules Chauvet spoke out against the overuse of chemicals in winemaking in the 1950s. Fast-forward to today and Lapierre's son Mathieu is continuing the tradition of minimal intervention and traditional winemaking in Beaujolais. This wine takes the Vin de France designation even though the grapes are almost all from Morgon. The first sip is grape/cranberry and fun, with some surprisingly nuanced flavours and light dusty tannins that add a touch of elegance and complexity. Cherry blossoms, blood orange peel, and hints of baking spice emerge after some air in the glass. Serve it chilled in the short term and pour it into any cup you want.
