Emandare sits on a unique, south-facing hillside in the rain shadow of Mount Prevost overlooking Somenos Lake. This combination creates a unique piece of land ideal for wine growing.
All of the wines from Emandare are 100% estate grown and dry farmed organically on our 8.5-acre North Cowichan vineyard. We are not certified organic but choose to farm this way because working along side nature is at the core of our wine growing philosophy. The vineyard is full of life and our goal is to capture a glimpse of this place in every bottle through old world, low intervention, natural wine making methods.
The 2014 Sauvignon Blanc comes from 14-year-old vines grown in the warmest area of the vineyard. Hand harvested and cropped at 1.5 tons per acre, the 2014 vintage gave us beautifully ripe fruit. Harvest took place on October 4th. The grapes were gently crushed, de-stemmed and left to soak for 26 hours before pressing off the juice. This wine was fermented in stainless steel using wild yeast and left on the lees for 5 months. The ferment gently stopped just shy of one brix, leaving behind enough natural sugar to create a balanced and completely unique expression Emandare’s nature.
