The term on the bottle propriétaire récoltant means this grower-producer makes wines exclusively from his own property. This is in contrast to a négociant, who generally purchases raw materials such as grapes from growers and makes the wine elsewhere. Domaine de Pellehaut is a high quality producer with almost 400 years of experience who has won the Gold Medal at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris every year from 2004 to 2014 - eleven years in a row.
This is a white blend of Chardonnay and local grape varieties such as Ugni Blanc, Columbard, and others. At first encounter, the nose emits a delicious myriad of ripe fruits such as pineapple and grapefruit with some lemon zest. On the palate the flavours are well-balanced with good acidity and a long fruity finish. This wine is perfect with white meat, cold cuts, cheeses, seafood (try oysters baked in white wine), or delicious on its own as an aperitif.
