Description
Ad Libitum Monastel is a red wine produced by Juan Carlos Sacha winery in Baños del Rio Tobia, La Rioja Alta. Sancha has been one of the driving forces behind rescuing the area’s old varieties, producing traditional wines like this organically cultivated Monastel (not to be confused with Monastrell, as the two are not related). Ad Libitum Monastel comes from a south-facing vineyard planted 560 metres above sea level. The grapes are harvested manually, destemmed and aged for 11 months in used French 500 litre barrels. A lovely swoosh of rhubarb acidity and gentle dark fruits and earthiness contribute to the great length and pleasing volume of this wine. Only 55 cases made.
