Marquis Tasting Note:
"A serious and beautifully crafted Rioja. Dark ruby with a sublime nose of black currant, kirsch, espresso and chocolate. The flavors of black currant and tobacco are followed by a smooth tannic progression into a long, lingering and fulfilling finish. Complex, satisfying, and oh so velvety, this wine is year in and year out on my perennial favourites."
- John Clerides, Owner of Marquis Wine Cellars
Abel Mendoza has never used the official categorization of wines (Crianza, Reserva, etc.), so the wine sometimes people called Crianza is simply 2012 Jarrarte. This is a Tempranillo from diverse vineyards in the San Vicente zone that matured in French oak barrels. It has a surprisingly perfumed nose with notes of flowers, orange peel and cherries in liqueur, fresher than what they expected in such warm and dry vintage. There are some spicy flavors and a fine texture, with moderate acidity and a nice mouthfeel that makes it very approachable and easy to drink. 5,510 bottles produced.
