The 2004 Torgiano Rosso Riserva Rubesco Vigna Monticchio is a single-vineyard blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo that spent two years in oak barrels prior to being bottled. An elegant, layered offering, the wine possesses attractive red fruits intermingled with suggestions of flowers, spices, tobacco and earthiness. The wine reveals outstanding depth in a medium-bodied style, with a long, refined finish. The 2004 is one of the finest recent vintages of this wine I remember. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019.
