Dark and dense, offering black currant, black cherry, licorice and spice flavors, with refined tannins and lively acidity for definition. Sweet fruit vies with the dusty tannins on the long finish. A modern style. Drink now through 2021. 29,200 cases made. Score: 90 points -- Wine Spectator, Oct 2014
The 2011 Chianti Classico Famiglia Zingarelli opens to modern tones of black cherry and sweet spice with ripe concentration and a good sense of balance. The oak element is evident, but not overdone considering the ripe quality of 2011 fruit. This wine could definitely benefit from a year or more of bottle aging. The mouthfeel is velvety rich with a touch of sweet softness. Small percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are added to the mix. I enjoyed the 2011 version much more than 2010.
