Bodegas Riojanas is one of the oldest and most respected wineries in Spain. The Artacho family launched the winery in 1890 in Cenicero, located in the heart of Rioja; however, early vineyards have existed here since 1787. During such a long, storied history, Bodegas Riojanas was also ravaged by Phylloxera like other wineries in Europe. French winemaker Gabriel Larrendat departed the winery in 1933, leaving behind the Monte Real label he named, which is still sold today. The winery has seen eight expansions over the decades and listed itself on the Spanish stock market in 1997.
