Thus Spoke Veruca is our third take on Syrah in our portfolio of 2021 releases, alongside Multiverse and 2019 Orienteering in the Underworld. Veruca was produced through a co-fermentation of Syrah (85%) and Viognier (15%) harvested on October 7th, 2020 from a vineyard in Oliver, BC.
During the 2020 harvest, we experimented with 4 separate Syrah/Viognier co-ferments in varying proportions, from 90% Syrah/10% Viognier to 60% Syrah/40% Viognier. The two bins with higher Viognier fractions became the backbone of the Multiverse, while the remaining two bins became Veruca.
Veruca is the broody and brutish sibling of Multiverse, a more classic take on a Northern Rhone-style Syrah. This wine required more barrel age to smooth out the tannins. It lands between Multiverse and 2019 Orienteering in the Underworld for total barrel ageing time.
