Tasting Notes
Deep brick red in colour. The Legacy bouquet delivers alluring aromas of raspberries, fennel, and rose-mary. Black licorice and cassis greet the palate, while lush tannins of marzipan and cocoa develop with each sip. A soft yet structured mouthfeel is complimented with notes of blackberries and leather on the finish. This age-worthy bordeaux inspired blend will become more expressive with time.

Vineyard Notes
Finally in 2013, Mother Nature offered us a break from the previous few years of difficult and challenging vintages. The 2013 winter was fairly mild. An early and warm spring saw the vines bud two weeks prior to normal average. The glorious hot spell that arrived for May long weekend found us barely able to keep up with the growth in the vineyards. Our Osoyoos vineyard chardonnay vines started flowering in early June and berry set took place in a record three days. The rest of the vines followed in succession. July proved to be a winner when it came to temperature and intensity. These great growing conditions continued until mid-September when it cooled down significantly. Picking of the fruit was done at peak ripeness and flavour intensity. Overall, 2013 will go on record as a top vintage.

44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, 13% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot.

Winemaker Notes
Each year The Legacy is determined by nature and the palate of Poplar Grove’s winemaking team. Barrels selected for Legacy are deemed worthy based on taste profile and structure. The 2013 Legacy vintage blend is composed of predominantly cabernet sauvignon. This vintage the winemaking team decided cabernet franc would be the secondary varietal due to perfect ripening conditions in the Osoyoos vineyards. Merlot and malbec in equal quantities provide roundness and aromatics, while a small amount of petit verdot was added to the blend for its powerful structured tannins. All of the varietals were hand picked and sorted to ensure only perfect fruit was included in the fermentation process. The wine was inoculated to start malolactic fermentation near the end of primary ferment. This wine was aged 21 months in French oak and then 24 months in our cellar prior to release.
