Planeta 2010 Santa Cecilia 1.5L

This wine comes from the area of Noto in the Southeast part of Sicily.  This is considered the original home of Nero d’Avola (of which this wine is 100%).  It is here in the Noto district, that Planeta have 60 hectares in Contrada Buonivini where they have built an underground winery. The soils in this area are limestone and tufa content, which characterizes the terroir of the district. Nero is often expressed in a vibrant purple or violet colour as is this wine.  It has loads of plums, dark cherry, figs and some spice on the nose.  It is both plush in texture on the palate with balanced freshness.  Serve with southern Italian dishes (i.e. meatballs) as well with mushrooms and hard cheeses.
