Piero Marrone 2017 Barbera d'Alba "Carlot" 750ml
Despite the high alcohol, this is lean and spicy on the nose, with cranberry as well as cherry aromas – refreshing after so many beefy, powerful wines. Juicy and fresh on the attack, this is slightly sweet but it shows more freshness than most 2017s. There’s perky acidity on the finish, if little complexity, but that red-fruits quality on the finish is welcome. Quite long. Drink 2019-2022

Located on the small hill of Annunziata, a hamlet of La Morra, the Marrone family winery enjoys a two-way view of the magnificent Barolo hills which reach the height of their splendour on these very slopes. Four generations of Marrones have devoted themselves to these vineyards and, over the course of time, they have developed a particular interest in wine tourism and hospitality. Denise, Serena and Valentina, the daughters of owner Gian Piero, are at your service to show you the slow mystery that turns Nebbiolo grapes into Barolo, the King of Wines. They organise lessons in winemaking, walks in the vineyards, guided tours of the winery and - to finish with a toast - tasting sessions accompanied by menus designed to perfectly match their wines.
