Vineyard: 17 rows planted in 1990/1991 on granite bedrock. It is the oldest Syrah vineyard in Canada. 100% Naramata Village.
Wine Making: Hand-picked on October 18th 2013. Fully de-stemmed. Fermented on skins in 2 ton open top fermenters. Basket pressed. Full malolactic fermentation in Neutral French barrique. Raised in a combination of 2-5 year old 500 litre puncheons and barrique. Bottled unfined and unfiltered in March 2014.
Tasting Note: The 2013 vintage is a return to the classically style, perfumed and feminine Nichol Syrah. Nothing changed in the winery but the vintage gave us very pretty, aromatic, substantil but detailed fruit. Medium ruby, vibrant lilac in colour. Aromas of sweet red/black fruits, black pepper and roasted herbs. On the palate this is very youthful but accessible with red fruit, moderate tannins and fresh acidity. One to consume over the holidays and for the next 5-10+ years. . Please decant.
