Matetic 2013 Corralillo Pinot Noir 750ml

Tasting Note:

Corralillo Pinot Noir is ruby red, with violet inflections. On the nose, it imparts aromas of cherries, blueberries and spices, which are very characteristic to this variety. The palate is elegant and fresh, with soft tannins and a juicy, long and persistent finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

The majority of the grapes for the 2014 vintage come from Matetic’s oldest organic vineyards where the soil is granite, with low fertility and very good drainage. In addition, 16% of the grapes come from the Valle Hermosa vineyards located 10 kilometers from the sea, where the maritime influence provides a unique tipicity, with ideal aromas and acidity. The grapes were hand-harvested at low temperatures to maintain the characteristics of the fruit. They were destemmed gently in open tanks and macerated seven days at low temperatures, being softy pumped over to extract the intense color and red fruit aromas. Fermentation was accomplished with specially selected yeasts and a set of extraction management techniques were used in order to achieve a greater complexity and expression from each clone separately. Finally, the wine was placed in French oak barrels for 11 months until the evolution of the tannins and the correct aromas were achieved.

Pairing Suggestion:

This wine is ideally served with oily fish such as salmon or bluefish, goat cheese, cured ham, light red meats, pastas and spicy foods.
