About:

The Leflaive family has been rooted in Puligny Montrachet since 1717. In 1984 Olivier Leflaive launched his own company Olivier Leflaive Frères with the help of his uncle Vincent and his brother Patrick. He quickly established his own reputation amongst Burgundy's finest négociants. In 1988 Franck Grux took over as a winemaker and still holds this role today. Over the next two decades he was able to establish strong, long-term relationships with the best growers and the quality of the wines is outstanding. Olivier Leflaive Frères is known today as a small négociant of high quality with a focus on the whites from the famous villages of Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault. Olivier Leflaive is continuously expanding and since 2010 he has acquired access to some of the familiar vineyard holdings and the Domaine Olivier Leflaive wines are now crafted from these plots. The entire philosophy of Olivier Leflaive has always been to produce simply great wines, starting from vines with great grapes. Olivier, Franck and their team are lucky to have very strong relationships with some of the best winegrowers on the Côte, people who grow their wines with care and attention. Although the quality of the harvest is key, vinification and ageing also play a major role in bringing out the essence of each appellation. Franck Grux and his team make it their daily task to ensure the quality of the wines and respect for the terroir. As such, the maison's approach is to treat each cuvee individually.

Expert Review:

At present strong sulfur aromas dominate the nose and render it difficult to assess. There is a generous and expansive mouth feel to the attractively precise and intense flavors that possess good mid-palate density as well as a discreet minerality on the notably dry but not especially austere finish. This is very good and the nose should clean up with no difficulty. Score: 90-92 points - The Burghound, Issue 51
