[2014] Here is another instance where piquancy and pungency—in this instance suggestive of kumquat and lemon peel, black tea, alkali and walnut—are nicely buffered by high extract and ameliorated by alcoholic levity and ample citric juiciness. This long, lean offering clings impressively, with saliva-drawing salinity as well as a vibratory citrus-and-stone interplay. Here is a Loimer 2014 whose clarity and energy make me confident that it will reward considerable cellaring.

[2017] Fred Loimer's 2017 Riesling Ried Steinmassl 1ÖTW is clear and pure yet intense and concentrated on the spicy, delicately mineral nose that displays ripe, dried and also stewed fruit intermixed with some spicy aromas. Lush and round yet also pure and tight on the palate, this is a full-bodied and dense yet fresh and salty-mineral Riesling with mineral grip and tension on the intense and juicy but also fine and salty finish. Still very young and far away from showing its true potential.
