Description
This vintage shows all the wonderful characters typical of a well-made, cooler climate Malbec – a beautiful deep purple colour, ripe tannins and a density of flavours. This year, we cropped the vineyard to 50% of normal to ensure super ripeness and concentration. The wine has been aged for 20 months in 100% French oak barreles (15% new) before release. In addition, 5% of Merlot was blended in for added complexity.
The aromatic spectrum of ripe plums, cassis and raspberry on the nose leads to a luscious mouthfeel brimming with dark fruits such as blueberries and plums. Subtle nuances of charred meat, espresso beans and earthy notes weave their way through the fruit-forward notes. It is showing a wonderfully textured palate structure.
Go southern for a food pairing with a melt in your mouth beef brisket or a burger with mushrooms and a thin slice of local artisan blue cheese melted on top.
Easily enjoyable upon release, the 2016 Malbec may be cellared for up to 5 to 7 years from vintage date.
