Jules Taylor 2013 Gruner Veltliner 750ml
The name’s a bit of a mouthful so we just call it Gru Vee. Roll it round in your mouth - it’s an apt name.
The best way to describe Grüner Veltliner is that it’s a cool climate wine somewhere between an aromatic white and a chardonnay. One of the reasons that we’re making it is to see if there’s life after Sauvignon Blanc. The initial results suggest there might be.
Winemakers notes
Its delicately perfumed nose shows white peach, greengage plum and apple blossom notes with hints of spice. The stone fruit theme is carried through to the palate, where white peach and spicy notes are found. With its soft acidity, it’s a real pleasure to drink!

Vinification
The Grüner Veltliner vines seemed to have settled in well and are a few years old now. The fruit that they produced this year impressed us again with it’s interesting aromatics and complex flavour profiles. It was harvested by machine and hand from three small vineyards in Marlborough and Gisborne, then whipped in to the winery, lightly pressed and cold settled over 48 hours to remove any solids before fermenting with selected yeast strains. The fermentation was kept cool and long to retain the vibrant aromatics.
