Houghton 2016 Crofters Chardonnay 750ml

A short period of skin contact before pressed to tank, fermentation completed in French barriques (25% new), extended lees contact, a portion undergoing mlf, matured for 6 months. The bouquet is complex, with an attractive edge of funk, the polished and urbane palate having had the benefit of some clever steps in the vinification that reflects, yet builds on, the relatively light fruit base. Stone fruit, citrus and creamy/nutty nuances flow together. How all this can be achieved for $19 I have no idea.
