Staff Pick:

This wine represents freaking phenomenal value for me. Juicy, but with excellent concentration of flavour, this unassumingly inexpensive little CDR (Cotes du Rhone) hits WAY above its price point. Cedar, dark fruit notes like plum, and ample spice tones make this a perfect evening sipper as the nights get colder and the days grow shorter. This wine would also play nicely with red wine based stews (Bouef Bourgignon, Brassato al Barolo, etc), hard cheeses, or heartier pastas (Ragu Bolognese). This wine has me ready for fall! -- Tasted by: Alex, Marquis Wine Cellars

Winemaker's Notes:

Blend of Grenache and Syrah in different percentage depending on the vintage knowing that it is always a dominance of Grenache. Some Carignan and Cinsault are also included in smaller amount, rarely more than 10% of each.
The soil is constituted of lime-stone, clay and rocks similar to the "Plan de Dieu" soils.
The vines have an average age of 35 years.

The soils are worked according to the agriculture "raisonnée" (or reasoned) with ploughing, scraping of the surface and use of organic manure. The harvest is manual with a sorting on the plant and a sorting at the reception in the cellar.

The different varieties are co fermented after 100% destemming.

Yeast is added to initiate fermentation after 100% destemming. Pumping up and release are done alternatively and depending on the style of the vintage and the vat. Vatting during 15 days approximately in concrete vats.

The ageing is done in concrete vats during 6 to 8 months, bottling after a very light filtration.
