The 2011 Vigno Carignan is produced from very old un-grafted, dryfarmed Carignan vines in Maule and has a fragrant, floral nose with notes of pollen, potpourri, spices and aromatic herbs that are really attractive. The palate shows great vivacity, with fine-grained tannins, great length and persistence. Drink now-2018. Francisco Gillmore started this project in Loncomilla, a dry farming region in Maule. The winemaker is his son-in-law, Andres Sanchez, who is married to Gillmore’s daughter Daniela. (Sanchez is also the creator and president of the Vigno association.) Gillmore produces wines full of personality at sensible prices. A name to watch.
