Produced by Roberto Gatti who spent more than two decades working for other Franciacorta producers prior to setting up Ferghettina, this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut sees grapes drawn from some of Ferghettina’s 120 hectares of vineyards that are divided across six different sub-regions within the larger Franciacorta designation. 95% Chardonnay, this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut also contains 5% Pinot Noir.
Production of this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is by the “Champagne method” (i.e. with the secondary fermentation that produces the bubbles of this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut occurring in bottle). This Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut then spent 24 months with the lees of that secondary fermentation in bottle prior to disgorgement and release.
In terms of colour this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is lemon colour of medium intensity. Fine bubbles race from the base of the glass of this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut. The alcoholic content is comparable with those of most Champagnes (with which this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is often compared) at 12.5% abv. Alcoholic legs that dissipate quickly when this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is swirled are the result.
Lemon and toasted brioche notes lead the aromas of this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut, along with the merest hint of more tropical fruit aromas. Elegant and gentle on the nose, there is an immediate sense that this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is a class act.
A mouth-filling and creamily textured mousse leads the palate of this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut with layers of subtle lemon citrus fruit, lees-aging derived biscuit notes and hints of pineapple unfolding as the lengthy palate of this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut develops. Crisp and dry, as this Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is swallowed a lingering creaminess remains. This Ferghettina Franciacorta Brut is a beautifully balanced wine.
